celebrated?

September 15 2020 was celebrated as engineers day on behalf of the achievements of one of the greatest engineer Mokshagundana Visvesvaraya popularly known as sir MV.

He was born on 15th September 1861 in a village called muddenahalli near Chikkaballapur in Karnataka. he lost his father in early stages itself, then he completed his degree in Arts and go for a degree in civil engineering. M Visvesvaraya completed his degree in college of engineering in Pune.

He worked as an assistant engineer initially, then he joined as chief engineer in Mysore. he had a perfect vision in several flood irrigation Dam projects made in Mysore, Orissa,Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Achievements of M Visvesvaraya:


*M Visvesvaraya became a finest engineer and became a expert in irrigation and flood control techniques.

*MV also founded the Government Engineering College in 1971 named as University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.

*M Visvesvaraya was chief engineer of the famous Krishnaraja Sagar dam situated in Mysore.

*M Visvesvaraya also constructed and installed automatic floodgates in 1963 it was first installed at Kalwa Shah Zafar via near Pune.

*He was also awarded "Knight" by British king George V in 1915.


*M Visvesvaraya was also known as father of modern Mysore because of his contribution in irrigation,flood,education,agriculture and economics in Mysore.

*The Government of India awarded him the highest civilian award known as Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his contribution towards economic various irrigation and agricultural projects. These are some of the Important achievements made by M Visvesvaraya.

He died in 12th April 1962. M Visvesvaraya birthday 15th September was now celebrated as Engineers day in India.
